Un agosto di sangue mai visto in 19 anni di monitoraggio dell'Osservatorio di bologna morti sul lavoro. REPORT: WORKPLACE FATALITIES IN ITALY (Data as of August 31, 2026)

REPORT: MORTI SUL LAVORO IN ITALIA (Dati al 31 Agosto 2026) Nei primi otto mesi del 2026 sono morti complessivamente 959 lavoratori (compresi gli infortuni in itinere). Di questi, 765 sono deceduti direttamente sui luoghi di lavoro. Oggi, 31 agosto, si conclude un mese orribile segnato da una montagna di morti: quattro soltanto nella giornata odierna. Il nuovo schiavismo, che oggi si chiama precariato, ha ucciso Pasquale Andriotta (nella foto), morto per fatica, stress, caldo e precarietà. Oggi gli scadeva il contratto e, con ogni probabilità, il timore di un mancato rinnovo ha contribuito alla sua fine. Non possiamo più assistere inermi a questo precariato imperante che sta facendo aumentare esponenzialmente i morti sul lavoro. I numeri dell'Osservatorio e i visitatori Prima di tutto vorrei ringraziare i visitatori del blog dell’Osservatorio di Bologna sui Morti sul Lavoro (cadutisullavoro.blogspot.it), che nel solo mese di agosto hanno superato l’incredibile cifra di 250.000 visualizzazioni. Cittadini comuni, istituzioni, giornalisti, studiosi e media (anche esteri) visitano regolarmente l’Osservatorio. Mi sento molto orgoglioso del lavoro volontario svolto da 19 anni a questa parte. Un grazie va anche ai circa 70.000 amici di Facebook che seguono i post dedicati a queste tragedie (oltre a una quota di appassionati d’arte che mi segue per altri contenuti). Confronto con il 2025: un aumento spaventoso • Dati complessivi (1° gennaio - 31 agosto 2026): 959 morti totali (di cui 765 sui luoghi di lavoro). Al 31 agosto 2025 i morti totali erano 687: si registra quindi un incremento di oltre il 10%. • Focus sul mese di agosto: Considerando i soli decessi avvenuti sui luoghi di lavoro nel mese di agosto, quest'anno ne sono stati registrati 101 (contro i 62 del mese di agosto 2025). Includendo i decessi in itinere, nel solo mese di agosto si superano i 120 morti, registrando uno spaventoso aumento del 36%. Occorre analizzare a fondo questo dato che lascia letteralmente senza fiato. Giovani, donne e lavoratori stranieri Questo mese verrà ricordato per la tragica scomparsa di Gabriele Tullio (nella foto), di soli 15 anni, che lavorava in nero e di notte come ambulante. • Under 30: Dall'inizio dell'anno sui luoghi di lavoro sono morti 55 giovani sotto i 30 anni. A questi ne vanno aggiunti moltissimi altri deceduti in incidente stradale mentre andavano o tornavano dal lavoro: una vera e propria strage. Mettersi alla guida di una moto nel tragitto casa-lavoro richiede massima prudenza, spesso compromessa dalla stanchezza o dalla fretta. • Donne e stranieri: Le donne muoiono soprattutto in itinere. Gli stranieri deceduti sui luoghi di lavoro nei primi 8 mesi sono stati 145: rapportati alla popolazione italiana lavoratrice, presentano un tasso di mortalità triplo, poiché destinati alle mansioni più umili e pericolose. I settori più colpiti: Autotrasporto e Agricoltura Impressionante la sequenza di morti nell’autotrasporto, che conta ben 133 vittime da quando, a fine 2022, sono stati introdotti gli "appalti a cascata". Terribile è anche il bilancio nel settore agricolo per lo schiacciamento da trattore, dove si registrano già 110 morti sui luoghi di lavoro. Non vedere alcun intervento strutturale da parte dei due Ministeri competenti lascia sconcertati. Da soli, autotrasporto e agricoltura rappresentano il 32% dei morti totali sui luoghi di lavoro. Le vittime anziane e il fenomeno sociale • Ultra-sessantenni: I lavoratori sopra i 60 anni deceduti sui luoghi di lavoro sono già 238, rappresentando da soli il 31,5% del totale. • Ultra-settantenni: Se passiamo agli ultra-settantenni, il dato raggiunge la cifra incredibile di 140 morti (18,37% del totale sui luoghi di lavoro). Ovviamente non continuano a lavorare per "divertimento" o per mancanza di passatempi: lo fanno per integrare magre pensioni e per aiutare figli e nipoti che, con i propri stipendi, non riescono ad arrivare a fine mese. Con il precariato gli stipendi sono diventati da fame, spingendo al contempo i giovani italiani qualificati a fuggire all'estero. Speriamo che qualche sociologo decida di approfondire e analizzare questo devastante fenomeno sociale. Of these, 765 died directly at their place of work. Today, August 31, closes a horrific month marked by a tragic toll of lives lost: four today alone. The new form of modern slavery, now labeled job insecurity (precarious work), claimed the life of Pasquale Andriotta today, who died from exhaustion, stress, heat, and employment instability. His contract was expiring today, and in all likelihood, the fear of it not being renewed contributed to his demise. We can no longer stand idly by as this pervasive precarious work drives up workplace fatalities exponentially. The Observatory’s Figures and Visitors First and foremost, I would like to thank the visitors of the blog for the Bologna Observatory on Workplace Fatalities (cadutisullavoro.blogspot.it), which in the month of August alone exceeded an incredible 250,000 views. Everyday citizens, public institutions, journalists, researchers, and media outlets (including foreign ones) regularly visit the Observatory. I feel immense pride in the voluntary work carried out over the past 19 years. My thanks also go to the roughly 70,000 Facebook followers who read my posts dedicated to these tragedies (alongside art enthusiasts who follow the page for other content). Comparison with 2025: A Staggering Increase • Overall Data (January 1 – August 31, 2026): 959 total fatalities (including 765 directly on site). As of August 31, 2025, total deaths stood at 687: representing an increase of over 10%. • Focus on August: Looking strictly at deaths occurring at the workplace during the month of August, 101 were recorded this year (compared to 62 in August 2025). Including commuting accidents, the total for August exceeds 120 deaths, marking a staggering 36% increase. This data requires deep, urgent analysis, as it is truly breathtaking in its severity. Youth, Women, and Foreign Workers This month will be remembered for the tragic loss of Gabriele Tullio, just 15 years old, who was working undeclared night shifts as a street vendor. • Under 30s: Since the start of the year, 55 young people under the age of 30 have died at work. To these, we must add many others who died in road accidents while commuting to or from work: a true slaughter. Riding a motorcycle on the home-to-work commute requires maximum caution, often compromised by exhaustion or rushing. • Women and Foreigners: Women primarily lose their lives while commuting. Foreign workers who died at their workplaces in the first 8 months number 145: relative to the Italian working population, they have a mortality rate three times higher, as they are relegated to the most low-paying and hazardous jobs. Most Affected Sectors: Road Transport and Agriculture The sequence of deaths in road transport is alarming, accounting for 133 fatalities since late 2022, when "cascading subcontracting" rules were introduced. Terrible is also the toll in the agricultural sector due to tractor rollovers, where 110 deaths have already been recorded at work. Seeing no structural intervention from the two competent Ministries leaves one bewildered. On their own, road transport and agriculture represent 32% of total workplace fatalities. Elderly Victims and the Social Phenomenon • Over-60s: Workers over the age of 60 who died at work already total 238, accounting on their own for 31.5% of the total. • Over-70s: Looking at workers over 70, the figure reaches an unbelievable 140 deaths (18.37% of the total workplace deaths). Obviously, they do not continue working for "fun" or due to a lack of hobbies: they do so to supplement meager pensions and to support children and grandchildren who, with their own salaries, cannot make ends meet. With precarious employment, wages have fallen to starvation levels, while simultaneously driving qualified young Italians to flee abroad.
